Election Deadlines Near for Eastern Shore Voter

With Virginia’s August 4 Primary Election just days away, election officials are reminding voters in Accomack and Northampton counties of several important deadlines.

Friday, July 24, is the deadline to request an absentee ballot by mail. Applications must be received by the local Voter Registration Office by 5 p.m. Friday is also the last day to register to vote or update an existing voter registration before the election. Voters who register after that date may still cast a provisional ballot through Virginia’s Same Day Registration process.

Early in-person voting continues with expanded weekend hours. Saturday, July 25, voting will be available from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday voting will be offered  July 26, from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.

The final opportunity to vote early in person will be Saturday, August 1, from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Primary Election Day is Tuesday, August 4. Polls will be open at local precincts from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m. Early voting at the Registrar’s Office will not be available on Election Day.

Election officials also remind voters that curbside voting is available during the early voting period and on Election Day for those who need assistance. A secure ballot drop box is available in the parking lot of the Voter Registration Office during early voting, while absentee ballots may be returned to polling places on Election Day.
