As North Carolina grapples with the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene, a local organization is stepping up to help those affected by the disaster. The United Way of Virginia’s Eastern Shore has announced a fundraising initiative that includes a unique matching donation opportunity from an anonymous benefactor.
The goal is to raise $10,000, which will be doubled to $20,000 through the matching funds, benefiting agencies on the ground in North Carolina working to support impacted communities. With the urgent need for assistance, donations are being accepted until October 18.
“One can not help but also think that this could happen to our home on the Eastern Shore of Virginia,” said Beth Sharpley, this year’s United Way Campaign Chair.
Community members are reminded of the potential risks of such natural disasters hitting their own region and are encouraged to contribute. To make a donation, visit the United Way of Virginia’s Eastern Shore website at esunitedway.org or send a check to United Way of Virginia’s Eastern Shore, PO Box 605, Onley, VA 23418, specifying that the gift is for North Carolina relief efforts.
