Eastern Shore Regional Animal Control Facility at Capacity, Urges Public to Adopt or Foster

The Eastern Shore Regional Animal Control Facility has issued an emergency plea for community assistance after reaching maximum capacity following the seizure of five dogs on Wednesday.

Facility officials said the intake pushed every kennel to capacity, with additional stray dogs expected to arrive Thursday, leaving no available space to house more animals.

“We are beyond full,” the facility said in a social media post, adding that it cannot continue to keep up with the growing number of dogs without help from the public.

The shelter is asking residents to consider adopting or fostering a dog, even on a short-term basis, to help free up kennel space for incoming animals. Officials said temporary foster homes can make a significant difference by allowing the facility to continue accepting dogs in need.

The public is also encouraged to share the shelter’s appeal on social media to help connect the animals with potential adopters and foster families.

Facility officials said community support is critical to ensuring the shelter can continue providing care for homeless and stray dogs on Virginia’s Eastern Shore.
