Eastern Shore Literacy Council Begins Community Campaign for Flags for Heroes Fundraiser

The Eastern Shore Literacy Council has launched its “Flags for Heroes” campaign to raise $6,000 for adult literacy programs and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

Community members may sponsor a flag in honor or memory of a personal hero. Each $25 sponsorship will support adult literacy tutoring and provide free books to children through the Imagination Library program.

“Every flag is a symbol of unity and respect for members of our community,” said Patty McMahon, president of the Eastern Shore Literacy Council. “Through this fundraiser, we are able to honor everyday heroes who played a major role in our lives while supporting essential programs.”

Sponsored flags will be displayed along Route 13 south near Eastville in September and at the Eastern Shore Family YMCA in Onley in November.

Following the displays, sponsors may pick up their flags for personal use or present them to the individuals being honored.
