
Eastern Shore Community College has announced the appointment of Dr. Ramzi Ockaili as the interim vice president of academic affairs, student success, and workforce development. He will begin his role on campus on March 31.
Dr. Ockaili brings more than 25 years of experience in higher education, with a background spanning teaching, research, academic leadership, and student success. He currently serves as department chair of anatomy & physiology and biology at Reynolds Community College. His work has included faculty development, curriculum innovation, student mentoring, and institutional effectiveness.
Dr. Ockaili holds a Bachelor of Science in biology from the American University of Beirut, along with a master’s and Ph.D. in physiology from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). He also earned a post-baccalaureate graduate certificate in medical education from VCU’s School of Education and completed postdoctoral training in cardiology at VCU’s Department of Internal Medicine.
Known for his innovative teaching approach and dedication to academic excellence, Dr. Ockaili has built a strong record of supporting both students and faculty. His knowledge of Virginia’s community college system and strategic focus on collaboration and growth will help guide ESCC through its current transitional phase.
College officials expressed confidence that Dr. Ockaili’s leadership will further strengthen the institution’s mission to serve the Eastern Shore community through accessible, high-quality education and workforce development.
