
Today marks the last opportunity local voters have to vote early. Early voters can vote today from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the local registrar’s offices. For those who have not voted early, the next chance is Election Day on Tuesday at your local voting precinct.
Also today is the last day of Daylight Savings Time for 2024. At 2 a.m. the time goes back one hour. So make sure you set your clocks back one hour tonight before bedtime. On Sunday the sun will come up one hour earlier but darkness will descent at 5 p.m.
While originally implemented during World War I and II to conserve energy, its relevance has been debated in recent years. Some states and lawmakers are pushing for permanent DST or to abolish the practice altogether, citing concerns about health impacts and confusion over changing clocks. As of now, proposals to make DST permanent have gained traction, but federal legislation would be needed to standardize the practice across the nation.
