Tropical Storm Debby is expected to affect the southeast coast over the next couple of days but after that the forecast is not clear yet.  As of Monday afternoon Debby was moving over north Florida after it struck the northeast Gulf Coast as a Category 1 hurricane.  Debby is expected to remain a tropical storm as it moves north northeast over the Atlantic Coast but after that the path is uncertain. Meteorologist Myles Henderson from our partners at WTKR-TV says that weak  steering currents mean that forecasting the effects the storm could have on our area is very difficult but Debby’s future path  should become clearer in the next day or two.

At this time, the main effects of Debby on our area are more likely to be  rain.  Meteorologists are expecting very heavy rains over eastern Georgia and South Carolina, with some fearing that as much as 20 inches will fall in that area. But Debby is expected to weaken and become either a tropical depression or just a low pressure system as it moves closer to our area.  Currently it looks like between one and two inches of rain could fall between Friday and Saturday as the remains of Debby pass through our area.  Isolated patches of heavy rain could occur during that time.  We could see gusts of approximately 30-35 mph at the shore line but  overall winds should not be much of an issue.
