On Tuesday Shore Daily News reported that the cigarette tax portion of the tax increase passed by the Board of Supervisors Monday night was 30 cents per pack. That was an error. The cigarette tax has been raised to 40 cents per pack which is the legal limit allowed by the State of Virginia. The proceeds from the cigarette tax receipts are budget to go to the County’s EMS budget.
