Onancock Sails Forward

The Town of Onancock is proud to welcome the historic tall ship Lady Maryland June 12–14, 2026, as part of the nationwide SAIL250 celebration commemorating the 250th Anniversary of the United States of America.

As an Affiliate Harbor of Norfolk Festevents’ Sail Virginia program, the Onancock Marina joins a select group of waterfront communities participating in this historic milestone. The three-day celebration will transform downtown Onancock and the waterfront into a vibrant destination featuring maritime heritage, live music, history programs, family activities, artisan vendors, fireworks, and public tours of one of the Chesapeake Bay’s most iconic sailing vessels.

Throughout the weekend, visitors will have the opportunity to tour Lady Maryland at the Onancock Wharf, enjoy family-friendly activities in the Kid Zone, participate in historic kayak tours, browse the Town Square Artisan Fair, and experience demonstrations by blacksmith Samuel D. Outlaw.

Special events include a White Oak Dedication ceremony, “Shore History Through the Artist’s Eye: 250 Years of America” exhibit, paper boat races, history-themed performances, concerts, and presentations celebrating the nation’s founding and the Eastern Shore’s maritime heritage.

Entertainment highlights include performances by Brasswinds Band, Fil Rhythm, Bayside Jazz, soprano Anna Sterrett, the Anointed Word Gospel Concert, and theatrical presentations of Revolutionary Love Stories at North Street Playhouse. The Roseland Theatre will also feature screenings of The Patriot.

The celebration culminates Saturday evening with a fireworks display at 9 p.m. at the Historic Onancock School.

“Lady Maryland represents the maritime traditions that helped shape the Chesapeake Bay region and the nation,” organizers said. “We are excited to welcome residents and visitors alike to experience this unique opportunity to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary right here on Virginia’s Eastern Shore.”

Most events are free and open to the public, although some activities require paid admission.

Spring Festival at the Eastern Shore of Virginia Regional Library

Eastern shore of Va. Regional Library in Parksley is having a Spring Festival, Saturday, June 13th from 10 AM until 2 PM in the library’s parking lot. There will be a bounce house, petting zoo, food trucks, dinosaur playground, indoor and outdoor games, dinosaur egg hatching station, building your own dinosaur, magic show, balloon animals and a photo booth. Bring your children to the Library this Saturday for a fun time.

Peninsula Tractor Organization Antique Tractor Show

Peninsula Tractor Organization’s Antique Tractor Show – Saturday, June 13, 2026 10 am – 2 pm at the Nassawadox Sawmill, 10150 Mill St., Nassawadox. The Peninsula Tractor Organization is teaming up with Northampton Fire & Rescue for a fundraiser for the fire company. The fire company will have food and drinks available at the event and all proceeds from the sale of food will go to the fire company.

This event is free and open to the public. Come see the antique tractors, the sawmill and the shingle mill run, blacksmithing and gas engines. There will be the barrel train for the kids, a petting zoo and much more.

So, come on out for some delicious food and a good time!

Patrick Henry stood before the delegates in Williamsburg urging them toward a permanent and independent Virginia government and, farther south, British forces arrived on the South Carolina coast with plans to seize strategic Charleston. In Accomack County, sweethearts John Cropper and Margaret “Peggy” Petit held each other close. Peggy was terrified John would go to war, while John could not ignore the exhilaration of the moment. Would their love see them through?

Find out in Revolutionary Hearts: Shore Stories of the American Revolution. This new work shares the adventures of the Croppers and four other Eastern Shore couples on an extraordinary journey to independence, freedom, and the making of a nation.

Follow folks like Lt. Samuel Waples from Accomack Courthouse to the Battle of Germantown and beyond; share the challenges of enslaved worker Betsy as she dares a storm to escape a Northampton plantation and seek British protection in New York; join Northampton heiress Anne Eyre Mifflin Roberts as she discovers her strength during wartime; and stay on the Shore with Accomack militiaman Bowdoin Snead as he tries to anticipate the next British move. You will hear from the famed Shore-born abolitionist Warner Mifflin and learn about the complex challenges of loyalty through the narration of freeman Shadrack Furman.

There are heroes, at least one true villain, souls fearless in the pursuit of freedom and, most certainly, brave women anchoring normalcy in a world turned upside down.

Every story is deeply human, bound together by love, tradition, culture, community, and even physical and emotional chains demanding to be broken. It is a hopeful study of humanity’s capacity for forgiveness, generosity, resilience, and the many faces of love. It is a celebration of the promise of the Declaration of Independence.

Revolutionary Hearts was written by Revolutionary Shore author and retired National Archives Mid-Atlantic Region Director Kellee Green Blake, who also authored Stronger Than Steel: Civil War Voices of Eastern Shore Women. Drawing on letters, diaries, manuscripts, official correspondence, and a scholarly dose of imagination, Blake brings the Revolutionary era to life for modern audiences.

Terry Bliss, Artistic Director of the North Street Playhouse, is directing the production.
