Pony Polar Plunge on Assateague

The Pony Polar Plunge is a New Year’s Day event in Chincoteague, Virginia, where participants jump into the Atlantic Ocean’s cold waters:

When: Monday, January 1, 2024 at 1:24 PM

Where: Assateague Island, VA at 8586 Beach Road

What to do: Plunge into the Atlantic Ocean, dress up in a costume, or hang ten

How to enter: Read and sign the Plunge Waiver and Release Form, which is available for download at ChincoteagueChristmas.com

Cost: Free to enter the water

Spectators: Watch from behind a rope line at Assateague Beach

Other features: Santa makes an appearance, flamingos gather, and reindeer take the plunge

First Day in the Bay New Years Day at 11

Ready to ring in the New Year? Experience the fun and excitement of a brisk swim in the Chesapeake Bay on New Year’s Day! Come join us for the 5th annual “First Day in the Bay”. This event is hosted by the Vacation Homeowners of Cape Charles and is a great way to start the New Year and connect with a few hundred of your neighbors!

This fundraising effort supports the local community. First Day in the Bay T-Shirts will also be available.

The event begins at 11:00 am at the Randolph entrance (near the Gazebo). We hope to see you there!

Scavenger Hunt Scheduled for New Year’s Day at Kiptopeke State Park

First Day Hike Scavenger Hunt

Jan. 1, 2025. 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Kiptopeke State Park

Ring in the New Year with a self-guided hike at Kiptopeke. This scavenger hunt will take you all over the park and show you spots you never knew existed.  Copies of the Kiptopeke Scavenger Hunt will be available at the brochure holders at the contact station, park office and trail head.  You can also download and print it yourself.
