Community and military honored at 2025 Sportsman’s Dinner hosted by Onancock Elks Lodge

The 2025 Sportsman’s Dinner and Giveaway, hosted by the Onancock Elks Lodge, once again brought the community together for an evening of tradition, generosity, and celebration. Staying true to their mission, the lodge used part of the event’s proceeds to support local youth programs and animal welfare initiatives.

Donations were presented to several organizations that make a difference on the Eastern Shore. Beneficiaries included FACES (Friends of Animal Control), VIMS Wachapreague for their youth camp, the Eastern Shore 4-H Shooting Sports program, and the Eastern Shore Anglers Club. These contributions aim to keep young people engaged in outdoor activities while strengthening the community’s support for local animal control efforts.

The evening also served as an opportunity to honor active-duty military personnel. A long-standing tradition of the Sportsman’s Dinner, the event included a special moment to recognize and express gratitude to service members recently returned from deployment. This year, Marshall Wirth of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks #1766 was honored with a heritage revolver, presented by event coordinator Mark Switzer.

“On behalf of our lodge and the entire community, we thank you for your service,” said Switzer during the presentation, which was met with heartfelt applause and patriotic pride.

The Onancock Elks Lodge extends its thanks to everyone who supported this year’s event, helping to make a meaningful impact on local organizations and celebrate the dedication of those who serve the nation.
