Coastal Flood Advisory in Effect Until Midnight EDT Tonight

Beach Hazards Statement Issued Through Wednesday Evening

A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect until midnight EDT tonight, with up to half a foot of flooding possible in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. Additionally, a Beach Hazards Statement is in effect through Wednesday evening, warning of dangerous rip currents in Accomack and Northampton Counties.

Shallow flooding is anticipated in the most vulnerable locations along the waterfront and shoreline, with up to one foot of water possible in low-lying areas. Roads, parking lots, parks, and lawns near the water may experience flooding. Breaking waves of 4 to 6 feet, combined with onshore swell, will create rough surf conditions and a high risk of rip currents.

If you need to travel, plan for extra time as some roads may be closed. Avoid driving around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take appropriate measures to protect property that is susceptible to flooding.
