The Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company has successfully reached its fundraising goal to acquire a new side-by-side vehicle, which is essential for its ongoing pony rescue and management efforts.
The campaign raised a total of $24,819, exceeding the initial target of $24,150.
The fire company utilizes its current Polaris vehicle for a variety of critical operations on Assateague Island, including pony rescues, roundups, search and rescue missions, beach rescues, and responses to high-water emergencies.
“This vehicle has been instrumental in saving countless ponies and enhancing the efficiency of our operations,” said a spokesperson for the department. “We are deeply thankful for the overwhelming support from all those who contributed.”
