Chincoteague, VA- Chincoteague Chamber of Commerce received a $10,000 grant from the Virginia Tourism Corporation (VTC) in efforts to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Virginia is for Lovers tourism slogan created in 1969. Tourism is an instant revenue generator in Virginia. In 2018, visitors spent $26 billion, which supported 234,000 jobs and contributed $1.8 billion in state and local taxes, according to a press release issued by Governor Northam’s office recently.
Chincoteague will be celebrating this great milestone with events, activities and promotions that will take place from June 21 to August 10. The first event coincides with the first day of summer and will be celebrated with a concert in the Robert N. Reed Waterfront Park featuring the sounds of local band Front Page News from 7-9 p.m. Enjoy all that Chincoteague has to offer during the day, then either dine at one of our amazing restaurants or eateries or pack a picnic dinner to eat in the park while enjoying music under the stars! Don’t forget your lawn chairs or blanket, but please leave your pets at home as they are not permitted in Robert N. Reed Waterfront Park.
Historic Main Street Merchants Association will be providing all the fixings for you to cook up delicious s’mores on the park grills, Movement Mortgage will be providing bottled water to quench your thirst and the Chincoteague Chamber of Commerce will have Virginia Tourism Corporation giveaways and limited edition 50 Years of Love T-shirts featuring artwork by Capt. Barry for sale! The chamber reminds everyone that this is a family-friendly event and alcohol is prohibited in the park. You may bring your favorite non-alcoholic beverage along if you like.
