The Town of Chincoteague’s Emergency management Team is monitoring the potential for strong northeast winds and moderate saltwater tidal flooding throughout the weekend as a result of a strong nor’easter off of our coast.

The flooding is possible through four high tide cycles beginning with Saturday Morning’s high tide at 10:20 AM at Curtis Meritt Harbor.  High tide will occur again at 10:41 PM Saturday; 11:09 AM and 11:33 PM Sunday.

The forecast his the highest tide in the cycle at 11:09 AM Sunday.

Strong winds may cause power outages. Please be sure to secure loose outdoor items such as trash cans, lawn ornaments/decorations and deck furniture. Move vehicles away from the shorelind.

VDOT will monitor the causeway and will notify the town approximately one hour prior to any closing.  The Town will notify citizens by our CODE RED call system and other media outlets.

Citizens and visitors should not drive through any flooded roadways and if you must drive; please proceed slowly as not to cause further damage to homes, businesses and vehicles from the salt water.
