The Chincoteague Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the selection of Joanne Moore as the organization’s new Executive Director, effective January 4, 2025. She succeeds Evelyn Shotwell, who has retired after almost eleven years in the position.

“The Chamber is lucky to have Joanne taking the helm. Throughout her ten years at the Chamber, she has proven her skill, talent, adaptability, and dedication to our mission,” said Cynthia Wilder, President of the Chincoteague Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. “We are confident that she will continue to be an asset to the Chamber and island in her new role, and we look forward to her leadership as we continue to grow and support our community.”

Moore joined the Chamber in 2014 as the Marketing & Event Coordinator and added bookkeeping responsibilities in 2018. She has successfully grown chamber sponsored events and enhanced social media engagement, while facilitating numerous grants to benefit chamber members and promote tourism. As Executive Director, Moore will be the leading voice for almost 300 businesses on Chincoteague Island and beyond and will represent the best interests of the business community, foster growth, and create valuable opportunities for collaboration, training, and networking.

“I am truly honored to have been selected by our Board of Directors to assume the role of Executive Director. I have mentored under Evelyn for many years and am eager to continue our work in supporting the business community, strengthening partnerships, and increasing visitation to Chincoteague and Assateague Islands,” said Moore. “I look forward to working with the dedicated team at the Chamber, our members, community partners, and the broader community to continue to support the success of businesses and tourism in our area. Together, we will build on the Chamber’s strong foundation and pursue new opportunities for growth and development.”

The importance of helping others was instilled in Moore by her parents at a very young age. She has been able to incorporate that passion into her work at the Chamber. With her education, professional experience, and skills, she has the foundation to drive the success of the Chamber and its members while helping guests discover their love of Chincoteague and Assateague Islands.

Moore is eager to connect with business and community leaders to gather their insights on how the Chamber currently supports the community or how it can improve its efforts and invites them to email [email protected] or call 757-336-6161 to arrange a time to meet. She encourages businesses, as they gear up for the 2025 season, to consider the benefits of chamber membership as it is a valuable marketing tool to promote and grow their business.
