According to the Virginia State Police, at approximately 11:44 pm on December 12, a 2024 Freightliner Cascadia tractor- trailer hauling chicken bi-product was traveling south on Route 13 in Northampton County in the Nassawadox area, South of Hare Valley road, ran off the roadway and overturned, resulting in loss of load.
It appears the driver overcorrected after running off the roadway, causing the trailer to overturn in the southbound lanes of Route 13, blocking the south lanes.
VDOT was notified and responded. Responding EMS personnel transported the male driver to Norfolk General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
No other vehicles were involved. It is unknown why the driver ran off the roadway; alcohol does not appear to be a factor. The investigation is ongoing.
The truck, owned by Mountaire Farms, was reportedly coming from Maryland hauling processed chicken.
This crash remains under investigation.
