Accomack & Northampton in middle of pack for new birth rates in 2023

According to a report from VPAP, the U.S. Census has released figures on birth rates in 133 cities and counties across Virginia.

The Eastern Shore falls roughly in the middle of the pack. Accomack County ranks 48th, reporting 10.8 births per 1,000 people, with a total of 359 births in 2023.

Northampton County ranks 78th, with an average of 9.5 births per 1,000 people. In total, Northampton reported 114 births in 2023.

Statewide, Fairfax has the highest birth rate at 23.3 births per 1,000, while Williamsburg has the lowest, at just 4.0.
