Cape Charles announced today that in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Virginia is for Lovers Slogan, it will be celebrating this summer as the ‘Summer of Love.”
Make a trip to downtown Cape Charles as the Summer of LOVE kicks off and you just might find a groovy mural on the fence along Mason Ave. “While designing this mural I was inspired by the idea of bringing the community together with art and music, in true 60’s fashion” shares mural artist Emily Smith. Cape Charles Main Street has partnered with over 50 local businesses to create a Summer of LOVE in Cape Charles that will kick off July 6 and last for 50 days. Residents and visitors will discover over 50 incredibly creative and interesting offerings designed especially for the Summer of LOVE. When they stop in at their favorite spot to support the LOVE sign when buying a “Heart for LOVE”, donate school supplies for our Northampton County teachers to our “Virginia is for Learners” , taste the special flavors designed especially for this celebration or take advantage of the countless creative specials created by shop owners.
We are excited to announce that the Cape Charles Brewing Company fans will get to taste a special Summer of Love brew. They will be introducing a Summer of Love brew with a limited release series celebrating the 50th anniversary of “Virginia is for Lovers”. “This light golden lager infused with Hibiscus flowers and a taste of tropical fruit creates a perfectly balanced easy drinking beer with a groovy red hue. Pairs well with summer sunsets on the Shore or wherever that wind-wave takes you. Flower power Y’all.” said co-owner Mark Marshall.
The Town of Cape Charles received a $10,000 grant from the Virginia Tourism Corporation (VTC) “50 Years of Love” grant fund. “50 Years of Love” is part of VTC’s efforts to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Virginia is for Lovers tourism slogan, which was created in 1969 by Richmond-based advertising agency Martin & Woltz.
