Cape Charles presents virtual plan online for proposed beach upgrades

The Town of Cape Charles has introduced a Virtual Meeting Room (VMR) to allow residents to explore proposed upgrades to beachfront parking and other related areas. This initiative follows feedback from a previous annual survey, where the community expressed a desire for improvements in Beachfront Master Planning.

In response, the Town embarked on a comprehensive beachfront planning effort last year, enlisting a consultant for engineering and design, and forming a committee with community stakeholders to guide the process.

The VMR provides residents with access to detailed information about the beachfront area, including the beach itself, dunes, the fishing pier, Bay Avenue, and the area around the LOVE sign and restrooms. The virtual platform features initial conceptual designs and historical context, enabling citizens to review the proposed plans and provide feedback. The VMR aims to be user-friendly, allowing visitors to navigate through the room and click on various informational boards.

The VMR will remain active throughout September, giving residents ample time to review the plans and submit their comments.

An in-person public meeting is scheduled for October 3, 2024, where the Town Council will discuss the feedback gathered through the VMR and outline the next steps. This meeting will allow the community to engage directly with the Council and the consultant to address any concerns or suggestions.

Following the public meeting, the Town Council will convene with staff and the consultant in a work session to assess the input received and review cost estimates. This session will guide the development of a phased plan for the upgrades. Once the Beachfront Master Plan is finalized based on this input, the Town Council will consider it for final adoption.
