Cape Charles Mason Avenue Pump Station repairs completed

The Town of Cape Charles says repairs have been completed at the Mason Avenue Pump Station following a sewage backup that forced street closures Friday evening.

According to a public notice issued July 4, Virginia American Water has completed repairs to the pump station, and normal water and sewer usage may resume.

The issue began Friday evening when the Mason Avenue Pump Station went out of service, causing raw sewage to back up into roadways and sidewalks in the area of Mason Avenue, Harbor Avenue and Bay Avenue.

Town officials had closed portions of those streets to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic while repairs were underway. Residents were also asked to avoid the affected area and limit toilet flushing to help reduce the amount of wastewater entering the system.

Virginia American Water crews worked on the repairs Friday night and into Saturday.

The town thanked residents for their patience and cooperation while the issue was being addressed.
