Cape Charles Coast Guard responds to boat fire

The Cape Charles Coast Guard responded to a boat fire near Windmill Point Monday afternoon.

According to a Facebook post, “at approximately 1345 local time, CG Station Cape Charles responded to a vessel on fire in the vicinity of Windmill Point. The vessel operator abandoned ship and was picked up by a Good Samaritan, no injuries reported. The crew of CG 45669 stood by for approximately 2 hours until the boat ultimately sank. A big thank you goes out to the Good Samaritan, Auxilarist Mary and Jim McCoig for treating the distressed mariner and handing off to EMS, and all other assisting agencies!”
