Due to recent rainfall, Accomack County, Northampton County and the Town of Chincoteague lifted the burn ban Thursday at noon.

The Shore had been under a severe drought, with hardly any measurable rainfall in the month of October.

Since the start of November, the Shore has received approximately two inches of rain fall.

Recently, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) officially designated Accomack and Northampton counties in Virginia as primary natural disaster areas, following the severe drought and extreme heat conditions that have plagued the region since April 16, 2024.
