Transportation officials are warning Eastern Shore drivers about the potential for dangerous black ice formation on local roads this morning. As temperatures fall below freezing, any remaining moisture or slush from recent snow will freeze on roadways across Accomack and Northampton counties.
The risk for black ice will continue through mid-morning Friday until temperatures rise above freezing. Officials warn that bridges and overpasses are particularly susceptible to icy conditions.
VDOT advises motorists who must travel to allow extra time for their commute, avoid sudden stops and acceleration, and remain alert for slick spots on all roadways. Drivers should be especially cautious during Friday morning’s commute until temperatures warm sufficiently to melt any ice.
