The Accomack County Board of Supervisors voted Wednesday to award to the Accomack Northampton Planning District Commission $150,000 remove derelict structures in the Horntown area.
On November 1, 2024, the County invited nonprofits and political subdivisions to apply for grant funds of up to $150,000 per award, with a total of $300,000 available, to improve their community by removing uninhabited derelict structures which they propose.
The County accepted applications from November 1, 2024, through December 31, 2024. Two applications were received during this timeframe.
The Board awarded one recipient at its February regular meeting. Staff recommended that a second entity, the A-NPDC, be awarded a grant of $150,000 to remove derelict structures in the Horntown Community with the award conditioned on the execution of an agreement, prepared by the County Attorney, between the County and applicant. This agreement will specify the program’s terms and conditions including performance periods, quarterly status reports, document retention, and eligible costs.
