A winter storm system moving through the mid-Atlantic brought significant snowfall to Virginia’s Eastern Shore on Tuesday afternoon. Northern Accomack County recorded 4-5 inches of snow, with accumulations diminishing southward down the peninsula. The snow later transitioned to a mixture of rain and ice.

The weather created hazardous road conditions, leading to several accidents along both Route 13 and secondary roads. Among the incidents, an Accomack County school bus slid into a ditch on Custis Neck Road. No injuries were reported. A&N Electric Cooperative reported that approximately 780 residents lost power Tuesday evening due to the storm. Most outages were the result of limbs falling off trees onto power lines from the snow.

While the snow has ended, forecasters predict rain will continue through Thursday, with additional precipitation expected this weekend. More than an inch and a half of rain fell over night.
