A new Cold Weather Advisory has been issued for Northampton and Accomack Counties, warning of even colder conditions heading into Wednesday morning. The National Weather Service forecasts wind chills to drop to zero degrees overnight, an even more severe situation than this morning’s wind chills of 3 degrees above zero.
The upcoming advisory will be in effect from midnight tonight through 10 AM Wednesday morning. Weather officials warn that these dangerous temperatures can cause frostbite and hypothermia if skin is left unprotected from the elements.
Health officials strongly urge residents who must venture outdoors during these hours to take proper precautions, including wearing appropriate winter clothing, a hat, and gloves. The frigid conditions pose particular risks during early morning hours when temperatures are expected to be at their lowest.
