A&N Electric Cooperative has issued a “Beat the Peak” alert for Thursday, January 9, from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., in response to extreme cold weather and higher projected energy use in the region. The alert is part of the cooperative’s voluntary program aimed at reducing energy consumption during peak demand times to help lower overall energy costs.

During these peak hours, members are encouraged to take simple steps to conserve energy, including:

  • Lowering thermostats by a few degrees.
  • Turning off unnecessary lights.
  • Delaying the use of major appliances such as dishwashers and dryers.
  • Postponing the use of hot water.
  • Delaying the charging of electric vehicles.

By reducing energy use during peak periods, the cooperative can lower its costs for power when energy prices are at their highest. Since A&N Electric Cooperative operates as a not-for-profit utility, these savings are passed on to members through more affordable rates over time.

It’s important to note that participation in the “Beat the Peak” program is entirely voluntary. Members will not see a credit on their bills for conserving energy, nor will they face additional charges if they choose not to participate. However, collective efforts during peak times benefit all co-op members by keeping overall energy costs manageable.

The cooperative urges members to participate in this initiative, highlighting the shared benefits of community-wide energy conservation. For more information, visit A&N Electric Cooperative’s website or social media channels.
