Accomack and Northampton Electric Cooperative(ANEC) consumers experienced several power blinks Monday evening. The blinks took place around 7:00 PM.

There were also several power outages associated with the blinks, mainly in the Cape Charles area. As many as 249 residents on the southern tip of Northampton County were reported out last night. There was also approximately 73 outages in the Exmore area for a time.

A&N Electric cooperative released the following statement regarding the blinks:

“After investigating the blink issue with the power system and evaluating what may have cause the issue, the cooperative is confident the blinks were caused by salt contamination on electrical equipment. Northeast winds the area experienced over the weekend likely caused salt air to collect on equipment. When it began to rain that salt caused some tracking, causing some equipment malfunction. Once the salt was cleared from the equipment, the blinks stopped. We will continue to monitor this.”
