A&N Electric issues third consecutive Beat the Peak Alert

A&N Electric Cooperative has issued a Beat the Peak Alert for the third day in a row as hot weather continues to drive higher projected energy use across the region.

The voluntary alert will be in effect today, Wednesday, July 2, from 3 to 7 p.m.

The cooperative also issued Beat the Peak alerts Monday and Tuesday. Officials said additional alerts are possible this week as temperatures remain high.

Members are asked to voluntarily reduce electricity use during the alert period by raising thermostats a few degrees, turning off unnecessary lights, delaying the use of major appliances such as dishwashers and dryers, delaying hot water use, and postponing electric vehicle charging until after the alert period has passed.

A&N Electric said reducing power use during peak demand periods helps lower the cooperative’s cost for electricity when energy prices are high. Because A&N Electric is a not-for-profit utility, those savings help support affordable rates for all cooperative members.

The cooperative emphasized that members will not receive a bill credit for conserving energy during the alert, and members who do not conserve will not be charged more. The Beat the Peak program is voluntary and is intended to benefit the cooperative’s overall membership.
