A&N Electric Issues Second Beat the Peak Alert This Week

For the second day in a row, A&N Electric Cooperative has issued a Beat the Peak Alert due to hot weather and higher projected energy use across the region.

The voluntary alert will be in effect today, Wednesday, July 1, from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday’s alert was in effect from 4 to 7 p.m.

Cooperative officials said additional alerts are possible this week as high temperatures continue across the area.

Members are asked to voluntarily reduce electricity use during the alert period by raising thermostats a few degrees, turning off unnecessary lights, delaying the use of major appliances such as dishwashers and dryers, delaying hot water use, and postponing electric vehicle charging until after the alert period has passed.

A&N Electric said lowering energy use during peak demand times helps reduce the cooperative’s cost for power when energy prices are high. Because A&N Electric is a not-for-profit utility, those savings help support affordable rates for all cooperative members.

The cooperative emphasized that the Beat the Peak program is voluntary. Members will not receive a bill credit for conserving energy during the alert, and members who do not conserve will not be charged more.
