American Flags restocked following strong community response

The Accomack County Republican Party announced Friday that additional American flags have been distributed to pickup locations across the county after an overwhelming response from residents earlier this week.

Organizers said the initial supply of flags, made available Monday as part of preparations for the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary celebration, was met with strong community interest. In response, locations have now been restocked with additional flags provided through the efforts of State Sen. Bill DeSteph.

The flag giveaway is intended to encourage residents to participate in the semiquincentennial celebration by displaying American flags in front yards, on porches, and in gardens throughout the county.

Flags remain available free of charge while supplies last at the following locations:

• Vance’s Furniture, 2454 Lankford Highway, New Church
• Vance’s Furniture, 28423 Railroad Avenue, Melfa
• LeCato’s Interiors, 36326 Lankford Highway, Belle Haven
• Jackson’s Hardware, 24270 Bennett Street, Parksley

Organizers said the enthusiastic response demonstrated the community’s excitement for the upcoming 250th anniversary of American independence and encouraged residents who were unable to obtain a flag earlier in the week to visit one of the participating locations while supplies remain available.

No purchase is necessary to receive a flag.
