A southbound tractor-trailer carrying frozen chicken was fully engulfed in flames following a single-vehicle accident around 1:45 a.m. on February 19 at the Two Island section near the Thimble Shoal Tunnel of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel (CBBT). Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported in the incident.

Emergency crews from Virginia Beach, Cape Charles, and Cheriton quickly responded to the scene and successfully extinguished the fire. Officials confirmed that no structural damage was sustained by the bridge-tunnel complex.

The fire temporarily disrupted traffic, but all accident debris has since been cleared. The CBBT has now resumed normal operations, with all lanes reopened to travelers.

CBBT officials expressed their gratitude for the public’s patience during the incident, ensuring that safety protocols were effectively followed throughout the emergency response. An investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.
