Accomack Sheriff’s Office Asks for Support for Two Injured Chesterfield Police Officers

The Accomack County Sheriff’s Office is asking members of the community to support two Chesterfield County police officers who were critically injured in the line of duty and now face lengthy recoveries.

In a recent Facebook post, the Sheriff’s Office encouraged residents to contribute to a verified fundraising effort established for Officers Jacob Clark and Jacob Wells. According to the post, the officers have connections to members of the Accomack County Sheriff’s Office, making the incident especially personal for the local law enforcement community.

Officer Jacob Clark, 25, and Officer Jacob Wells, 40, were shot while responding to an incident at a residence in Chesterfield County. Both officers sustained critical injuries but were later reported to be in stable condition.

A police K-9 named Knight was killed during the incident.

Authorities charged Gary G. Shaw in connection with the shooting. Court records show Shaw faces multiple charges, including attempted aggravated murder of a law enforcement officer and aggravated malicious wounding of a law enforcement officer.

According to Chesterfield Police, Clark has served with the department for approximately five years, while Wells has nearly 10 years of service. Both officers come from families with a history of service to the department.

The Accomack County Sheriff’s Office said donations to the fundraiser will help cover medical expenses, rehabilitation costs, and other challenges associated with the officers’ recoveries. The agency also encouraged residents who are unable to contribute financially to share the fundraiser and keep the officers, their families, and fellow first responders in their thoughts and prayers.

“Their families are standing beside them every step of the way,” the Sheriff’s Office said in its post.
