Accomack Sheriff’s Criminal Impact Unit makes another drug related arrest

The Accomack County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies conducted a traffic stop early Friday morning, Jan. 16, following reports of a suspicious vehicle in the area.

According to Sheriff W. Todd Wessells, members of the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Impact Unit stopped a vehicle at approximately 12:55 a.m. on Hill Street in Onancock. The stop followed reports of a suspicious vehicle observed in the Greenbush and Parksley areas during proactive patrols related to a recent increase in vehicle thefts and vehicle tampering incidents.

During the investigation, deputies located narcotics and a firearm inside the vehicle. Authorities determined that the front-seat passenger was a convicted felon prohibited from possessing firearms.

As a result of the investigation, Travis Markiese Brown, 42, of Onancock, was charged with possession of a Schedule I or Schedule II controlled substance, possession of a Schedule I or Schedule II controlled substance while in possession of a firearm, and possession of a firearm by a violent convicted felon. Brown is currently being held at the Accomack County Jail without bond.

Mariah Russell, 34, of Onancock, was charged with possession of a Schedule I or Schedule II controlled substance and possession of a Schedule I or Schedule II controlled substance while in possession of a firearm.

The Accomack County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Onley Police Department during the incident.
