Accomack Schools welcome administrators with VIMS training experience

Accomack County Public Schools welcomed nine new administrators and 11 returning administrators during a two-day professional development program at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science.

The program gave participants an opportunity to review school division policies and procedures, build professional relationships with school- and central-office staff, and prepare for the 2026-2027 academic year.

On the final day, administrators toured the VIMS facility, visited nearby barrier islands and participated in hands-on bay dredging activities.

Superintendent Dr. Gennifer Miller said the experience highlighted the distinctive educational opportunities available to students on the Eastern Shore.

“For both our new and returning administrators, this opportunity highlights the exceptionally unique opportunities our students have living on the Eastern Shore,” Miller said. “By bringing our administrators out of their buildings and giving our local partners a chance to highlight what they offer for our students, we are growing partnerships and setting the stage for an academically rich school year with new opportunities for hands-on learning.”

School officials said the professional development program reflected the division’s commitment to supporting its leadership team while expanding educational opportunities connected to the Eastern Shore’s natural environment.
