Nandua High School is dealing with a bat infestation between its interior and exterior walls.

In a letter from Accomack School Superintendent Rhonda Hall to parents, Hall said the school has engaged several licensed wildlife control companies for the humane removal of the bats in compliance with wildlife protection laws. However, since bats are a protected species, removal won’t be an easy process. A contract for the removal and necessary repairs is expected to be finalized in the coming weeks, with the entire process anticipated to take three to four weeks.

The letter continued saying school officials emphasize that student and staff safety is their top priority and that precautions will be implemented to maintain a safe learning environment during the removal process.

Updates will be provided to families as the situation progresses. For further inquiries, families can reach out to the school administration.
