The Accomack County School Board has announced the appointment of Gennifer Miller as the division’s new superintendent. Miller, currently serving as assistant superintendent of Buena Vista City Public Schools, will begin her new role on June 1, according to School Board Chair Janet Martin Turner.
The selection was finalized during the board’s regular meeting on Tuesday, April 15, concluding a months-long search process. The position was publicly advertised, and the board received 18 applications. Approximately 300 community members also participated in a survey identifying desired qualities in a superintendent.
To ensure an equitable and cost-effective process, the board opted not to use an external consulting firm, Turner said. Instead, each board member participated directly in reviewing, scoring, and ranking all applicants based on their qualifications.
Six candidates were invited for first-round interviews during the week of March 10. Four finalists were then selected for second-round interviews conducted with the full board during the week of March 24.
“The Accomack County School Board welcomes Dr. Miller to the Eastern Shore and looks forward to working together to advance the success of all students in the division,” Turner said.
