The historic Revolutionary War-era cannon displayed on the Accomack Court Green has recently undergone restoration, thanks to the efforts of local residents Debbie and Bruce Holland of New Church.
Over the course of several months, the Hollands carefully cleaned and polished the cannon, a relic dating to 1776, returning the weathered artifact to a condition more fitting its historical importance. The cannon is a long-standing feature of the Accomack Court Green and is associated with the county’s Revolutionary War heritage.
During the holiday season, a wreath was placed in front of the cannon to mark its significance and to honor the era in which it served. The restoration and seasonal tribute highlight continued community interest in preserving and recognizing Accomack County’s historic landmarks.
Hope Saecker, who has helped oversee efforts at beautification of the space, noted that the work ensures the cannon remains a visible reminder of the region’s role during the founding years of the nation.
