Accomack County remains abnormally dry, but conditions have improved, according to the latest drought update from the National Weather Service.
The report notes that both Accomack and Northampton counties have seen a one-class improvement following recent rainfall. A swath of above-normal precipitation has been recorded over the past 30 days across parts of eastern Virginia and the lower Maryland Eastern Shore.
Despite the improvement, Virginia continues its drought watch for Accomack and Northampton Counties, while Maryland maintains a drought warning for the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
The National Weather Service also reports that much-below-normal 7-day streamflows are currently being observed on the Eastern Shore.
Rainfall of between half an inch to one inch is expected over the coming week.
The NWS says it will discontinue its Drought Information Statements unless Severe Drought (D2) conditions return.
