The Accomack County Department of Emergency Services hosted a tabletop hurricane exercise. Attending were various local agencies representing the state and Northampton County.  Representatives from VDOT, The Eastern Shore Health District,  the Accomack County Department of Public Safety, 911, Accomack and Northampton Social Service,  Accomack and Northampton EMS, the Red Cross, the Accomack County Sheriff’s Department, the Eastern Shore Amateur Radio Club, Accomack County Schools, NASA Wallops and the National Weather Service.

The scenario was that the Shore was being threatened by a Category 2 hurricane  with 105 mph sustained winds. Discussion centered around the plan of action for each agency, 72 hours, 48 hours, and 24 hours before the expected arrival as well as during and after the storm.

Sarah Dickey of Accomack EMS was the facilitator and stated that one of the advantages of  such an exercise is that people representing the participating agencies get to network and get an overview of what services are being provided by each of the participants.
