The Accomack County Board of Supervisors has approved a plan to award one-time bonuses to all regularly scheduled County and State-supported local employees, effective July 15, 2025. This decision follows the adoption of the County’s Fiscal Year 2026 budget and a recent move by the Virginia General Assembly to increase compensation for state-supported employees.
As part of the FY2026 budget, a 3% salary increase had already been approved for all regularly scheduled employees, both County and State-supported, beginning July 1. However, in a move to align with new state funding initiatives, the Board has now added an additional 1.5% bonus for these workers.
The state is providing funding to help cover this bonus for state-supported local employees, including constitutional officers and their staff, the General Registrar, and employees of the local social services board. To ensure equity, the Board voted to extend the same 1.5% bonus to all regularly scheduled County-funded employees as well.
“Equity and fairness were at the heart of this decision,” the Board posted online. “We want to recognize the dedication of all our employees—whether their positions are funded by the state or locally.”
The bonus will be calculated based on employees’ salaries as of July 1, 2025. Full-time regularly scheduled employees will receive 1.5% of their base salary. Part-time employees will receive a prorated bonus based on hours worked from January 1 to May 31, 2025, with a minimum bonus of $150.
To be eligible, employees must be actively employed in a regularly scheduled position as of June 18, 2025.
To fund the bonuses, the Board amended the FY2026 County Budget, increasing it by $372,531. Of that amount: $105,815 will be reimbursed by the state. The remaining $266,716 will be funded through excess investment earnings as of June 30, 2025.
Employee bonuses are scheduled to be paid on July 15, 2025.
