In Accomack County, emergency medical services are set to continue in the southern part of the county as the Board of Supervisors unanimously voted to acquire two ambulances from the Wachapreague Volunteer Fire Company. The move ensures uninterrupted service for lower Accomack County.
Charlie Russell has more:
The two ambulances, appraised at $300,000, will continue operating from the Painter Volunteer Fire Company while final operational details are settled. A third-party inspection confirmed both vehicles are in good mechanical condition.
In 2018, officials relocated the ambulances from Wachapreague to Painter to improve response times west of Route 13. However, in October, the Wachapreague Fire Company announced it would discontinue ambulance services, prompting the county to step in and ensure continuity.
Additionally, the county will partner with the Emergency Ambulance Service Revenue Recovery Board for billing services. Funding for the ambulance purchase has already been approved.
This decision ensures that lower Accomack County residents will continue receiving uninterrupted emergency services.
