The Accomack County Board of Supervisors and the Accomack County School Board have taken steps to resolve a recurring problem. Representatives of the school system and County Administrator Mike Mason recently completed an agreement to govern how unspent county funds allocated to the school system will be handled. Supervisors have long complained that the school system does not return unspent funds to the county like other county agencies do.

The agreement allows the school system to develop a contingency fund that represents 1.2% of the average annual budget. Should there be unspent funds at the end of a given year, the school system would be allowed to keep half of the funds to maintain the contingency fund with the balance being returned to the county.

Supervisor Ron Wolff stated that he was glad the agreement had been reached with the school system. The Board voted unanimously to approve the agreement.
