Accident involving truck carrying 62 ton pylon closes 13 near Cape Charles for several hours Tuesday

A single-vehicle crash involving a tractor trailer closed Route 13 southbound at the Cape Charles light for the better part of Tuesday.

According to state police, the crash happened at approximately 9:53 a.m. on Lankford Highway, Route 13. A tractor trailer transporting a 100-foot pylon was attempting to make a right turn from Stone Road onto southbound Route 13 when a tire left the roadway.

Police say the load shifted as a result, causing the trailer to partially overturn. The pylon being transported weighs approximately 62 tons.

No injuries were reported in the crash. Route 13 was reopened at approximately 6:30 PM Tuesday evening.
