Around 6:40 a.m. on February 15, a southbound tractor trailer was involved in a single vehicle accident near North Channel Bridge of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. The truck went overboard on the west side of the southbound span just south of Fisherman’s Island.
The driver of the vehicle was Mr. Ronnie Andrews, age 61, of Robersonville, NC. The vehicle involved was owned by Perdue Farms, Inc.
“The thoughts and prayers of everyone at the CBBT are with the family, loved ones and fellow employees of Mr. Andrews during this difficult time,” said Jeff Holland, Executive Director of the CBBT.
Crofton Diving, of Portsmouth, VA, recovered Mr. Andrew’s body along with the truck and trailer earlier tonight.
A single lane of traffic is currently open in the southbound direction around the scene of the accident. The facility has sustained guardrail and curb damage. The lane closure will remain in place until maintenance crews are able to complete repairs, which will likely take several days.
