Traffic was blocked for over an hour Friday afternoon by a multi car accident north of Nelsonia on Rt. 13.
The accident occurred at approximately 3:42 pm. Reports came in of the wreck involving as many as five vehicles, with one reportedly being on fire. Units from Parksley, Onancock and Tasley responded to the scene in the north bound lane just north of Nelsonia on Rt. 13. Both lanes were blocked during the incident. Some traffic was rerouted to Seaside Road and to Rt. 316. The Maryland State Police helicopter initially responded but was later recalled from the accident.
It took approximately one hour to clear the scene and for traffic to begin flowing. At this time it is not clear how many individuals were transported.
Meanwhile, another accident occurred at approximately the same time on Turkey Run Road near Hallwood. A car left the road and overturned in a field. The driver was transported to Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital by Oak Hall Rescue.
