Chincoteague Oyster FestivalChincoteague, VA-September 5, 2019: The Chincoteague Chamber of Commerce is well underway with plans for the 47th Annual Chincoteague Island Oyster Festival. Time is running out to purchase tickets to the shore’s largest party of the year celebrating delicious Chincoteague “Salt” oysters and the official beginning of the fall oyster season on the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

The popular island event will be held on October 12, 2019 at Tom’s Cove Park located at 8128 Beebe Road in Chincoteague. Delectable oysters will be served raw, steamed, fried and frittered beginning at noon along with clam fritters. Clam chowder, hushpuppies, hot dogs, shrimp cocktail, salad bar, and boardwalk fries will be served at 11:00 a.m. Non-alcoholic beverages are included in the ticket price of $45 and beer may be purchased separately.

Gates open at 10:00 a.m. giving attendees the opportunity to decorate their spaces for the Best Decorated Space Contest, and purchase festival souvenirs and raffle chances for the Extravaganza of Prizes to be given away at 4:00 p.m. There will be no admittance into the festival grounds prior to 10:00 a.m. Outdoor dancing to music by local favorite Island Boy can be enjoyed from noon to 4:00 p.m. The Pony Express Trolley Green Route will operate free of charge from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for your convenience, courtesy of the Chincoteague Chamber of Commerce and the Town of Chincoteague. Day-trippers are advised to park at Chincoteague Combined School, 4586 Main Street, and call the dispatcher at 757-854-8572 for pick up. The Trolley is handicap accessible.

Limited tickets remain to this sell-out party. Tickets are $45 each and proceeds benefit programming and activities of the Chincoteague Chamber of Commerce. Sales are ahead of last year, according to Chincoteague Chamber of Commerce executive director Evelyn Shotwell.
