ACPS celebrates accomplishments of 25-26 Academic Year

Accomack County Public Schools (ACPS) concluded the 2025–2026 school year by celebrating significant academic gains and division-wide accomplishments that have positioned the school division among the most improved in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

During the division’s end-of-year employee celebration, Superintendent Dr. Gennifer Miller recognized the collective efforts of teachers, administrators, support staff, families, students, and community members whose dedication contributed to a year marked by growth, achievement, and progress.

Nearly 300 days ago, ACPS launched the school year under the theme, “We Are the Champions,” a message intended to reflect the commitment and potential of every student and employee across the division. As the school year concludes, student achievement data confirms that commitment translated into measurable success.

“As we reflect on this year, it is important that we keep the first thing first,” said Dr. Miller. “The first thing is, and always will be, the success and academic achievement of our students.”

The results of that commitment have been extraordinary.

Among more than 80 school divisions participating in Virginia’s Comprehensive Instructional Program (CIP) consortium, representing more than 60 percent of school divisions across the Commonwealth, Accomack County Public Schools demonstrated the greatest improvement in rankings of any participating division, moving up 15 spots. Additionally, ACPS increased its overall pass rates at a level six times greater than the consortium average.

“These accomplishments are not accidental,” Dr. Miller said. “They are the result of countless hours of planning, teaching, mentoring, encouraging, supporting, and believing in our students and teachers.”

“While change is often challenging, this year’s results demonstrate that maintaining a steadfast focus on student achievement and continuous improvement yields meaningful results,” she said. “The data tells a powerful story, and that story is one of growth, progress, and success.”

“This year, we proved that we are the champions,” Dr. Miller said. “Next year, we will continue ‘Raising the Standard’ because our students and this county deserve nothing less.”
