Wu-Rorrer named Interim Executive Director of Va Space Flight Academy

The Virginia Space Flight Academy has named Dr. Billy “Ray” Wu-Rorrer as its new Interim Executive Director.

Based on Wallops Island, the Academy is Virginia’s only residential aerospace learning program, offering summer camps and year-round STEM education for students aged 8 to 16. Since its founding in 1998, it has reached over 6,000 students from Virginia and across the U.S., offering unique hands-on experiences with NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility, the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport, and private partners like Rocket Lab.

With a renewed Space Act agreement with NASA, students enjoy exclusive behind-the-scenes access to real aerospace missions — inspiring the next generation of engineers, scientists, and innovators.

Dr. Wu-Rorrer brings decades of leadership in STEM education. He’s served with the Virginia Department of Education, Virginia Tech, and the Virginia Technology and Engineering Education Association. His work has boan Widueen recognized nationally and internationally for advancing student engagement in engineering and technology.
